Hatsoff2Charity Golf Outing Success: Thank you to all who participated in and supported our Annual Golf Outing on July 18.  We had a beautiful day at Tamarack golf course and all those that participated had an enjoyable day.  Highlights included hole in one contests on each par three hole sponsored by Cadillac of Naperville including a chance to win a new Cadillac.  Unfortunately, there were no holes in one, but each participant that stayed through dinner took home at least one prize.  Profits from the event are split equally between the Knights of Columbus Councils here at St. Elizabeth Seton and at St. Raphael’s.  Our Councils provide much needed support to many worthy causes with a special emphasis on children and the underprivileged.  We especially wish to thank our 2009 sponsors of the Golf Outing:

camprockdonateKnights of Charity: Grand Knight David Snyder presents a charitable donation to our High School Religious Education Director, Mike Kuhn for Camp Rock. The funds were used to offset the costs for priests at this camp where disadvantaged youth were able to enjoy some summer fun. This year, eight priests were present to hear confessions from the 118 campers and 31 counselors.   Of the 118 campers 48 were on scholarships and came to camp at no cost thanks to donations. There were two Masses during camp.

“It is amazing how fast the Lord enters into the heart of youth when all of their personal luxuries are gone and camprock1they are only worried about making new friends. There were no TVs, IPODS, Cell Phones, Malls, Texting, Face Book, YouTube and the youth are still having the best time of their lives canoeing, wall climbing, archery, making crafts, swimming, praying, studying the Bible, going to reconciliation and attending Mass. At this completely Catholic environment, they not only experience the presence of God, but also leave determined to live out their faith by joyfully serving others. Camp is the sight of the true transformation. The less fortunate youth also experience the generosity of the people, who without knowing them, have sponsored this joyous time away from home.” John camprock2Lamperis, President, Joyful Hope Ministries.

support_our_troopsSupport our Troops! The Rockin’ for the Troops concert on July 18, was an awesome event. The Naperville Sun reporting some 12,000 fans attended the fundraiser held at Cantigny, featuring the Lt. Dan Band, with actor Gary Sinise. The time went quickly and the rain held off. Thanks to all who volunteered. Operation: Support Our Troops spends about $10,000 a month in postage alone, covering the cost of 400 care packages. The top five items needed immediately include cold drink mix packets for bottled water, wipes, bags of beef jerky, cereal/cereal bars and foot powder. Visit the Illinois Operation Support our Troops website www.osotil.org to learn ways how you can help. Remember to always pray for the safe return of our troops.

austin july 003St. Elizabeth Seton K of C Council 10025 Eagle Scout Donation: Your Knight’s donated a portion of the cost to Austin Harvey’s Eagle Scout Project. He designed and installed sturdy benches and beautiful landscaping in the grassy area around the flag pole at All Saints Catholic Academy. Note from Austin:

Mr. Meister – Thank you for all of your help in getting the donation from the St. Elizabeth Seton K of C council. I was able to get discounts from Home Depot and Menards to lower the cost of the project. The project is now complete and everything went well. I am attaching my picture as you requested for your newsletter.

Thanks again, Austin Harvey

First Degree Team Certified:  Joining the Knights of Columbus requires attending a First Degree Membership Ceremony. If you are considering joining our order, this ceremony is the first stage of your journey to Knighthood. On May 18, Tony Rickert, our State District Deputy observed our First Degree ceremony where six men began their journey. He then certified to the Supreme Knight in Connecticut that our team is proficient and professional. This past week, we received the certificate of certification from Gary Nolan, Supreme Ceremonial, for our council’s First Degree team. This is a great honor and both Past Grand Knight Vince Nirtaut and current Grand Knight Dave Snyder are very proud of this achievement and our team. Drop us an email if you are ready to begin your journey to Knighthood.
