“The World Day of Prayer for Peace will bring to the world the Church’s message of peace and reconciliation, so that religion will always be a cause for mutual respect and harmony, and never for violence or hatred,” said Supreme Knight Carl A. Anderson. “In a special way, we remember the brave men and women of the military who work tirelessly, even to the point of sacrificing their own lives, to bring about true peace rooted in justice.”

Knights in parade
The upcoming Labor Day Parade will take place this Monday, September 1st, starting at 10:00 a.m. in downtown Naperville. All Knights, their families and friends are invited to march. Sir Knights in full regalia will lead our group.
The parade theme is: Restore our Green Earth. Our 2008 Grand Marshall is Forest Preserve District of DuPage County President D. “Dewey” Perotti, Jr. The parade begins at the corner of Mill Street and 5th Avenue, by Naperville North High School. It will proceed south on Mill Street, east on Jefferson Avenue, south on Main Street, west on Porter, and end in the parking lot behind Naperville Central High School. Participants must enter off of Benedetti or Ogden, as Mill Street will be closed.
The Knights will meet in the parking lot behind Naperville North High School. If you cannot march, please come out and enjoy the sights and sounds of a Naperville parade.

tootsie roll
2008 MH/LD Fund Drive
For the past 39 years the Knights of Columbus has raised funds through their annual Tootsie Roll Campaign to benefit people with developmental issues including mental retardation and learning disabilities. All funds (100%) collected through this fundraiser are distributed to local organizations that provide services for these special people. SES Knights’ support for this program in the past has helped the following local organizations: Misericordia, Little Friends, All Saints Catholic Academy Special Recreation, Western Dupage Special Recreation Association, and Special Camps for Special Citizens.
Members of the St. Elizabeth Seton Knights of Columbus, their wives, families, friends and volunteers will be soliciting at storefronts and street corners on September 19, 20 and 21, 2008. Last year, we collected over $5,000 in our Council alone. Please volunteer to help this great cause by contacting Jeff Sweeney @ julienjeff14@att.net.
The Knights of Columbus and our Special Friends deeply appreciate your annual support.
May God Bless You &Your Family,
Jeff Sweeney and Ron Jarvis, Tootsie Roll Chairmen

Support our Troops! We had 10 Knights put in approximately 20 hours of volunteer time directing traffic and parking. The Rockin’ with the Troops concert was declared a success, with the Naperville Sun reporting 10,000 attendees. The time went quickly and the rain held off until the lots emptied. Thanks to all who volunteered.
Golf: The first combined St. Elizabeth Seton-St. Raphael Golf Outing went quite well. Attendance for this event was in the low 80’s (which was the score that most of the golfers were trying to achieve). Weather was ideal, and the participants were looking forward to a repeat of this event next year. Thanks to all who attended and donated to this charitable event. The proceeds were split between the two Councils, and will provide funding for various causes that will appear in this column.
White Sox: About 55 members of the SES community converged on ‘The Cell’ July 18 to watch the mighty White Sox out-slug the Kansas City Royals 9 to 5!
Watch this space for the date of our upcoming open house for Knights of Columbus applicants.

blood drive
Blood Drive
Results: Thanks to all who contributed to our Blood Drive on July 26. It was a marvelous turnout and a fitting tribute to Brother Knight Tom Stern, his family and their efforts over time, to ensure a steady supply of blood during this critical time of the year. There were a total of 57 walk-ins and scheduled donors providing a total of approximately 52 pints of much needed blood.
The next scheduled donation day is Saturday, October 4, 2008, 7:30 to Noon.
As is our custom, the Knights will provide a full breakfast for donors. Remember, if you cannot make it to our blood drive, the Heartland Blood Center in the Jewel plaza will gladly take your blood! (630)428-3632.
